Omron has officially unveiled its new Trajexia Motion Control Platform to celebrate the start of volume production. The event is seen as significant by the company as the development of the platform has been a wholly European project aimed at satisfying the needs of the European market which focuses principally on continuous-path motion control.

Development of Omron’s Trajexia Platform took just 12 months from concept to completion. According to Tim Foreman, Manager of Motion Control and Network Product Development at Omron Europe who was responsible for leading the development project, this timeframe presented quite a challenge. But by drawing on the know-how of Omron’s international organisation and its development partners, the development team was able, in record time, to combine motion technology to produce something really special in motion control.

To develop the new platform, Omron Europe teamed up with Trio Motion Technologies. “Trio is acknowledged as one of the most respected specialists in advanced motion control and has worked successfully with us on several past projects,” said Tim Foreman. At the heart of the platform is the Trio motion controller with its 32-bit DSP and Motion Perfect PLC programming software. Omron Europe drew on its PLC development experience to compress the circuitry into a small volume to produce a compact, easy-to-program yet powerful motion control platform, tailored to the European market.

The unveiling ceremony took place at Omron Europe’s factory in ‘s Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. At the ceremony, Trio’s contribution to the project was acknowledged by Faouzi Grebici, Marketing Director of Omron Europe. “The excellent cooperation with our colleagues from Trio and the commitment they showed to the project contributed enormously to its success. We look forward to equally successful collaborative projects in the future,” he said.

Faouzi Grebici also referred to the fact that this is Omron’s first all-European project – in development, manufacturing and marketing. “We are fully committed to further expanding our role in Europe and see the introduction of Trajexia, which has been created specifically to meet the needs of European manufacturers, as an important milestone in this undertaking,” he emphasised.

The unveiling ceremony was also attended by Roberto Maietti, the new President & CEO of Omron Europe and by Director of Trio Motion Technologies Chris Backhouse.
