Opus Energy, the Northampton-based b2b energy supplier, is thrilled to announce that it will be supporting Mencap throughout 2013/14, and aims to raise £20,000 for the charity to progress the work that it does for people with a learning disability.

Around 5,000 people in Northamptonshire have a learning disability – Mencap supports them so that they can lead independent lives. Over the next year, Opus Energy’s employees will take part in a host of fun and exciting events in order to raise £10,000 for the charity. Opus Energy will then match any funds raised.

To continue its pledge to power the local community, Opus Energy will also be supporting Rainbow Hospice. The East Midlands-based hospice offers specialist respite, palliative and end of life care to children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

Charlie Crossley Cooke, Managing Director, Opus Energy, comments: “We chose to support Mencap and Rainbow Hospice as we wanted to directly support the local community – the charities are of vital importance to so many people in Northamptonshire. Our previous fundraising efforts have encouraged our employees to challenge themselves and get involved in helping the local community, so this year will be no exception.”

Marie Brown, Regional Development Manager, Mencap, commented: “Mencap are absolutely thrilled to be working in partnership with Opus Energy this year. We are excited that the staff have already begun organising a very busy and proactive calendar of events in order to support our work with people with a learning disability in the Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire areas. Each week in the UK over 300 babies are born with a learning disability and the employees of Opus Energy will be making a distinct and measurable impact on the lives of the people we support in the local communities. We pride ourselves on the way we work with our corporate partners and we are all looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and joining in the fun with the staff.”

Employees from Opus Energy are active fundraisers; since 2010 the company has raised an outstanding £46,945 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, to help drive up the standard of care for people in the local area who are living with the disease. Opus Energy also launched a £10K video competition last year – Opus Energy Gift – to help fund the projects of local community groups and charities.
