Viso fittings can take energy saving lamps to increase energy efficiency

The traditional incandescent bulb has been around for 125 years (and very little has changed since its invention) and the light production process involved generates a great deal of heat which is completely wasted.

In December of last year the Irish government announced plans to ban the sale of incandescent bulbs by the beginning of 2009. The aim of the ban is to increase energy efficiency in Irish homes and businesses, leading to an estimated reduction of 700,000 tons of carbon emissions every year and an annual saving of €185 million in electricity costs.

Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) are very energy efficient, using 80% less energy than GLS (incandescent) lamps. "A wide range of energy-saving light bulbs are already available on the market," says Michele Lynch, National Lighting’s Store Manager. "These bulbs are not only a better environmental choice than incandescent light bulbs, but cost far less to operate.”
