With the risk of earth fault current ever present on low voltage auxiliary cables, the earthing of pilot circuits at a convenient position near the point of work is a crucial element of any installation. Weidmuller's Klippon Pilot Terminal Boxes are grounding pilots terminally. These come as a complete unit for testing, disconnecting and earthing pilot cables, with other standard box layouts available.

These tough, durable boxes house the pilot core earths, as well as PPT/35 pilot protection terminals, a device that has been designed and developed to meet the ESI standard 12-4 1973 ‘Terminating equipment for pilot cables subject to induced transient voltages exceeding 650V rms’.

Designed for mounting onto plastic rail type TSK35, dimensioned according to EN50 022 (BS 5584:1978), the PPT/35 gives an insulation test level of 15kV a.c. for 1 minute; this covers the creepage and clearance paths between terminals, between the terminal and earth, and across the disconnect.

The test terminal also consists of a longitudinal disconnect terminal with plug bolts on both sides of the disconnection into which earth conductors can be plugged prior to removal of the disconnect plug. For additional safety, the removal of this plug can only be effected by the use of a special ‘T’ bar style handle.

The clamping yokes are a screw clamp/spring loaded insertion type, to EA Technical Specification 50-18, to accommodate hook bladed crimps.

The Pilot Terminal Box also comprises the necessary earth bar connections and interconnecting leads, insulated gland plate, pilot cable armour disconnect link and removable transparent covers to protect against accidental touching during normal operation. With a greater temperature range as standard, increased impact resistance and a gasket compression control system, the Klippon Pilot Terminal Box delivers outstanding performance in the severest of conditions.

With more and more areas of industry falling under the world-wide hazardous area legislation, the Weidmuller stainless steel enclosures are designed to meet these increasingly stringent requirements.
