UPS Systems' remote monitoring tool REMO helps NFER to avert disaster UPS Systems' remote monitoring tool REMO helps NFER to avert disaster - news feed from the Electrical News Portal

The National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) is the UK’s largest independent provider of research, assessment and information services for education, training and children’s services. It aids UK government departments and agencies on both a local and national basis by informing and improving policy and practice. Its IT systems are essential to its day-to-day operations and it needs to protect them against power failure at all times.

UPS Systems plc has helped the NFER to avert disaster with its remote monitoring tool REMO, and reduce the organisation’s costs. When the NFER chose to install REMO into its server room, it was to protect its UPS and temperature control equipment. If its mains supply failed while its back-up batteries were discharged, its UPS would have insufficient power to enable the systems to shut down safely. This could result in NFER losing valuable stored data. This scenario arose when the standby battery power dropped to 60%. REMO helped avert disaster by sending a notification to alert NFER staff to the potential problem, enabling them to take earlier action.

Rob Gumbo, Technical Services Manager at NFER, said: “I would definitely recommend REMO to other organisations because it has made our lives so much easier. Using REMO it is possible for us to relax in the knowledge that our systems are operating normally at all times, as well as saving us money because we don’t need to employ someone to monitor our systems. REMO removes the burden from our clients of the need to continuously monitor equipment and, as in this case, give them early warning to potential hazards affecting their equipment to protect their mission critical systems,” said Tom Sperrey, UPS Systems Managing Director.

REMO is a unique solution that provides remote monitoring for the majority of UPS and all generators. It gives IT managers peace of mind by monitoring the status of their IT systems 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
