Hi-visibility vest with a tool-belt built into it is trialled by Romec
(23/02/2010)
A new-style hi-visibility vest that has a tool-belt built into it is being trialled by engineers at facilities management company Romec, and if successful it is hoped it will become standard issue.
The tunic was designed by Romec engineer Jim Stage due to the lack of access that wearing a hi-visibility vest creates when trying to get tools from a separate waistcoat. Jim, who is based in Aberdeen, has now had his idea recognised by Romec after he won the Best Idea Prize at the company’s annual awards.
The jacket features three A4-sized internal pockets for carrying documents, while the outside has pockets for items such as tools, safety goggles, pens and a mobile phone, as well as a specific one for an ID card.
And unlike most hi-visibility vests it also has a collar than can be pulled up helping to make the wearer more visible especially when viewed side-on.
He said: “As an engineer I’m all too aware of the problems caused by wearing a hi-visibility vest over the top of tool-belt, so I designed a two-in-one waistcoat to solve the problem. A lot of work has gone into it, and it’s nice to be recognised by the company.”
