BEAMA Executive Chairman elected President of CENELEC

Dave Dossett, BEAMA’s Executive Chairman has been elected as President of CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation).
David Dossett B.Sc. MIEE is a chartered engineer with experience in the electricity supply and oil industries. He has over 20 years’ experience in international standardisation. In 1991, he joined BEAMA as Association Director. He was a Director of ASTABEAB Certification Services Ltd (1991–2007) and Chairman of the Electrical Safety Council (2007-2009).
Also, Dave Dossett is a Board member of European engineering industry federation ORGALIME (Chairman, 2005–2007) and still chairs its anti-counterfeiting Task Force. During the late nineties he led the successful campaign against the harmonisation of plugs and socket outlets in Europe and has coordinated the BEAMAInstallation campaign against counterfeit products.
Mr Dossett’s appointment is part of a new CENELEC focus designed to impact on future European standardisation and the organisation’s own direction, governance and expansion through a common Management Centre for CEN and CENELEC (CCMC).
“I’m delighted to be taking on the Presidency at a time of great change in the electrotechnical industry and for CENELEC’s future evolution. Particularly with new emerging technologies driving low carbon solutions and the significance of the climate change issue,” commented Mr Dossett.
“Standardisation is as crucial as ever and our new strategies will ensure the organisation continues to make an impact. I’m pleased too that through this position, BEAMA has been recognised for its continuing influence on standardisation issues Europe-wide. Also, I thank the British Electrotechical Committee and BSI for their support.”
With his term of office running until 31 December 2012, Mr Dossett brings considerable experience to his new CENELEC position. For three years he was Vice President and recently CENELEC’s interim President.
Also, he is Director of BEAMA Installation, the UK’s trade association for electrical installation equipment manufacturers.
