Electricians to test their wits on domestic and commercial wiring circuits at SkillELECTRIC competition
(28/09/2009)
SummitSkills’ SkillELECTRIC competition, organised by the sector skills council for building services engineering, will run across the four days of the Interbuild 2009 show. The finals will conclude with an awards ceremony which will be held in the show’s Construction Forum Theatre between 3-4pm on the last day of the exhibition.
The highest scoring electrical competitors from regional heats across the UK will be invited to participate at the final to battle it out in a number of practical challenges. The electricians will test their wits on a mixture of domestic and commercial wiring circuits to install and test.
Neil Collishaw at SummitSkills, commented: "Last year’s finals were a huge success and we are delighted to be working with Interbuild again this year. We have known for many years that apprentices can benefit businesses by providing opportunities to develop and grow skills. In these challenging economic times, it is critical to nurture and develop new talent in the building services engineering sector to help it recover quickly and ensure the effects of the recession are not felt as heavily in future years. Apprentices provide an important part of this solution.
“Everyone benefits from competitions such as these as it ensures the development of skills and experience. For competitors, the reward of being recognised and rewarded for their growing skills is very satisfying. For employers, it is a chance to see how highly adept employees contribute to the success and profitability of the company."
